COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Education Studies programme provides students with a broad and interdisciplinary understanding of education by examining it from sociological, philosophical, psychological, and historical perspectives. The course explores how education systems develop, their purpose in society, and the factors that influence teaching and learning across different educational settings. Students gain knowledge of the sociology of education, educational philosophy, and educational psychology, enabling them to understand how social, cultural, and individual factors shape learning experiences and educational outcomes. The programme also focuses on professional development through voluntary practice and career development opportunities, allowing students to gain practical experience and explore potential career pathways. Research skills are a central feature of the course, with students studying educational research methods and completing an independent dissertation that develops advanced analytical and critical thinking abilities. Contemporary issues such as neurodiversity in education are explored, helping students understand inclusive educational practices and the diverse needs of learners. Optional modules in teaching and learning in English and mathematics provide additional insights into curriculum and classroom practice. The programme also examines the future of learning, educational innovation, and the impact of emerging technologies and new approaches to teaching and learning. Students develop an understanding of leadership, ethics, morals, and values in education, enabling them to critically evaluate educational policies and contribute to positive change within educational settings.
