COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Animation and Games Art programme provides a comprehensive education for students who aspire to build careers in animation, gaming, and visual effects industries. The course combines artistic creativity with technical expertise, enabling students to develop skills in both traditional and digital media. Students begin by studying the fundamentals of games art, learning 2D game design, digital production methods, and game development workflows using industry-standard software and game engines. They also explore the principles of animation, including movement, timing, and storytelling, while creating their own animated sequences and digital projects. The programme places strong emphasis on drawing and visual communication through modules that develop skills in anatomy, life drawing, perspective, and digital sculpting. As the course progresses, students gain experience in advanced areas such as visual effects, motion graphics, and immersive 3D production, creating projects such as music videos, trailers, and promotional content. Students also learn about preproduction techniques, including concept development, character design, scriptwriting, storyboarding, and pitching creative ideas for games and animated productions. Employability is a key focus throughout the programme, with modules dedicated to portfolio development, self-branding, interview preparation, and understanding the expectations of the creative industries. An optional professional placement year allows students to gain valuable industry experience and apply their knowledge in a real working environment. In the final stage, students undertake independent research and produce a major creative project that showcases their artistic and technical abilities.
