COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electronic and Electrical Engineering MSc(Eng) is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the field, preparing them for careers in industry, research, and technology development. The program offers opportunities for dissertation projects in collaboration with university research centres or industrial partners, with examples including optimisation of electric vehicle motors, analysis of wind turbine electrical machines, design of future aircraft power systems, motor control prediction, photolithography techniques, and the development of optoelectronic measurement systems. Core modules, including the MSc Investigative Research Project and the Engineering Research and Design Project, allow students to conduct independent research and apply theoretical concepts to real-world engineering challenges, developing analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Students also select seven optional modules from a broad range of subjects, enabling them to specialise according to their interests and career goals. Options cover topics such as AC Machines, Advanced Control of Electric Drives, Energy Storage Management, Permanent Magnet Machines and Actuators, Power Electronics, Semiconductor Devices, Optical Communication Systems, Mobile Networks, Signal Processing, and System Design, among others. Together, these modules combine rigorous theoretical instruction with practical, hands-on experience, equipping graduates with the technical expertise, innovative problem-solving abilities, and specialised knowledge required to excel in electrical and electronic engineering roles, research, and further advanced study.
