COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Control and Systems Engineering MSc(Eng) equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in modern control, systems engineering, and signal processing, preparing them for careers in industry or research. Core modules provide a comprehensive foundation, covering topics such as Foundations of Control Systems, Optimisation and Signal Processing, Modern Control and System Identification, Advanced Control, Industrial Automation, and a substantial Control Systems Project and Dissertation. These modules develop students’ ability to model, analyse, and optimise complex dynamic systems, applying control strategies and signal processing techniques to enhance performance across diverse engineering applications. Optional modules allow students to specialise and tailor their studies, with examples including Multisensor and Decision Systems, Optimal Control, Cybersecurity for Control Systems, and an Industrial Training program in Advanced Manufacturing. The course combines rigorous theoretical learning with hands-on project work and practical applications, enabling students to implement control systems in real-world contexts, perform simulations, and analyse data effectively. Throughout the program, students gain strong skills in computational modelling, problem-solving, and engineering design, while also understanding professional, ethical, and safety considerations. Graduates emerge with the expertise to design, optimise, and manage sophisticated control and systems engineering solutions, positioning them for leadership roles in technology development, automation, robotics, energy systems, and advanced manufacturing industries.
