COURSE CURRICULUM

The Wireless Communication Systems MSc (Eng) offers a comprehensive curriculum combining theoretical knowledge with practical research and industry-relevant applications. Core modules such as Principles of Communications, Antennas, Propagation and Satellite Systems, Mobile Networks and Physical Layer Protocols, Advanced Signal Processing, and Broadband Wireless Techniques provide a solid grounding in the fundamental concepts and technologies of modern wireless systems. The MSc Investigative Research Project and Engineering Research and Design Project allow students to apply their learning to independent, hands-on research, often in collaboration with university research centres or industrial partners. Past dissertation projects have included innovative applications such as hand gesture-based computer interfaces, wireless signal propagation in jet engines, optically controlled smart antennas, MIMO antennas on mobile devices, and Wi-Fi mesh networks for LTE and LTE-Advanced backhaul. Students can also tailor their expertise by selecting two optional modules from areas including Advanced Computer Systems, Advanced Integrated Electronics, Optical Communication Devices and Systems, Electronic Communication Technologies, and Data Coding Techniques for Communication and Storage. This combination of advanced coursework, research experience, and optional specialisation equips graduates with the analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills required to design, optimise, and innovate in wireless networks and communication technologies. The program prepares students for careers in telecommunications, network engineering, research and development, and technology consultancy, or further academic study.
