COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Management MSc at Sheffield combines advanced mechanical engineering expertise with management and professional skills tailored for industrial contexts. The program includes core modules such as technical communication, experiments and valid computer modelling, engineering commercial success, strategic engineering management, innovation and change management, and professional development, alongside a research-focused MSc individual project. These modules equip students with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts effectively, develop practical solutions, and integrate commercial and strategic considerations into engineering practice. Students also select two optional modules, with a maximum of one from the first semester, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific technical interests. Semester one options include industrial applications of finite element analysis, tribology, advanced engineering fluid dynamics, dynamics, advanced manufacturing technologies, computational biomechanics, railway engineering and sustainable transport, and experimental methods for engineering problems. Semester two options include design and manufacture of composites, advanced energy and power, cardiovascular biomechanics, aviation safety and aeroelasticity, railway engineering and sustainable transport, human factors and user-centred design, human movement biomechanics, and sustainable materials manufacturing. This combination of core and optional modules ensures graduates develop both deep technical knowledge and the strategic, managerial, and research skills needed to excel in engineering and leadership roles within industry.
