COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in both advanced mathematics and theoretical physics, combining rigorous coursework with research-led learning. Core modules include Analytical Dynamics and Classical Field Theory, which develops the skills to understand and model complex physical systems, and Research Skills in Mathematics, which equips students with the analytical and computational tools needed for high-level scientific investigation. Students also complete a Dissertation, enabling them to undertake independent research in a topic of their choice, applying theoretical methods to real-world or abstract problems. The program offers flexibility through a range of optional modules, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Options include topics such as Machine Learning, Financial Mathematics, Mathematical Modelling of Natural Systems, and various advanced physics subjects like Advanced Quantum Mechanics, Advanced Particle Physics, Advanced Electrodynamics, Introduction to Cosmology, and Quantum Optics and Quantum Computing. This combination of theoretical knowledge and practical research experience prepares graduates for careers in research, academia, and technical roles in industry, or for further doctoral study.
