COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Materials Science and Engineering provides a comprehensive exploration of the principles and applications of materials in modern engineering. Core modules cover the science of materials, materials processing and characterisation, practical, modelling and digital skills, and heat and materials with application, offering students a strong foundation in understanding material behaviour and performance. Students further specialise by choosing one module from a group that includes glasses, metallurgical processing, functional and structural ceramics, nanomaterials process design, advanced nuclear systems, nuclear reactor engineering, or engineering alloys, allowing them to focus on areas of particular industrial or research interest. A second optional module provides additional specialisation options such as energy generation and storage, deformation, fracture and fatigue, functional nano- and bio-nanomaterials, design and manufacture of composites, sustainable materials manufacturing, and advanced materials manufacturing. Alongside theoretical and practical learning, the program includes a substantial project component, enabling students to apply their knowledge to real-world or research-focused problems, develop critical thinking, and gain hands-on experience with contemporary materials techniques. Graduates of this MSc are well-prepared for careers in materials development, production, quality control, energy, and advanced manufacturing industries, as well as for further research in doctoral programs. The course equips students with technical expertise, research capabilities, and problem-solving skills to drive innovation and sustainable practices in materials engineering.
