COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA International Criminology program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of crime and criminal justice from comparative and global perspectives. Core modules such as The Research Process, Responding to Crime in Europe, The Cultures of Criminology, and Issues in Comparative Penology develop students’ knowledge of criminological theories, research methodologies, and the varied approaches to justice across nations. The dissertation allows students to undertake independent research on a topic of their choice within international criminology, demonstrating critical and analytical skills. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies to specific interests, including topics like Crime and Globalisation, Policing and Society, Media, Culture, Crime and Punishment, Global Terrorism and Counterterrorism, and International Criminal Law. Others such as Gender and Violence and Criminality, Victimhood and War explore the intersections of crime, identity, and conflict. Students also have the opportunity to strengthen their research abilities through modules in qualitative and quantitative methods and to understand the practical applications of criminological research in policy and practice. This course equips graduates with the theoretical insight and methodological expertise needed for careers in criminal justice, international organisations, policy analysis, or further academic research in criminology and related disciplines.
