COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human and Molecular Genetics MSc equips students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the study of human genetics and its applications in research and clinical settings. Core modules such as Laboratory Techniques in Molecular Bioscience and Advanced Molecular Diagnostics and Cell Culture Techniques provide hands-on experience in essential laboratory methods, enabling students to analyse genetic material, investigate molecular processes, and apply diagnostic techniques to human disease. Advanced Scientific Skills and Literature Review in Molecular Genetics develop students’ ability to critically evaluate research, design experiments, and synthesise scientific literature, while the Research Project allows independent investigation, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application. Students also choose optional modules, taking 45 credits from areas including Stem Cell Biology, Clinical Genomics of Cancer and Rare Genetic Diseases, Human Genomics, Proteomics and Genome Biology, Genetic and Epigenetic Regulation of Development, Cancer Biology, Genome Stability and Genetic Change, Human Reproduction and Fertility, and The World of RNA. These options allow students to tailor their studies to their research interests and career aspirations, gaining specialised knowledge in cutting-edge areas of molecular genetics. By combining rigorous theoretical foundations with extensive laboratory practice and research experience, graduates are prepared for careers in genetic research, clinical diagnostics, biotechnology, and healthcare, as well as for advanced study such as PhD programs.
