COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics MSc is structured to provide students with a thorough grounding in core economic theory, quantitative methods, and applied analysis, while also allowing flexibility to specialise in areas of interest. In the first semester, students study core modules in Microeconomic Analysis, Macroeconomic Analysis, and Econometric Methods, which establish a foundation in economic theory, policy evaluation, and statistical techniques essential for rigorous analysis. Students also select one optional module, choosing between Corporate Finance and Behavioural Finance, to gain insight into financial markets and decision-making processes. In the second semester, students take a core module in Applied Econometrics, choosing either Cross-sectional and Panel Data Approaches or Time Series Approaches, equipping them with advanced tools for data analysis and empirical research. Additionally, students select three optional modules from a wide range of specialised topics, including Derivatives, Options, and Securities, Public Economics, Theory of Banking, International Money and Finance, Industrial Organisation, and Monetary Economics, enabling them to tailor their studies to their career or research interests. Together, these modules combine theoretical knowledge, quantitative skills, and practical application, preparing graduates for careers in finance, consultancy, policy-making, and international organisations, as well as for further academic research, with the ability to analyse complex economic problems and make data-driven decisions in diverse professional contexts.
