COURSE CURRICULUM

The Data Science MSc is structured to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in data science, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills to analyse, interpret, and apply data effectively. Core modules, which account for 90 credits, include Introduction to Data Science, Data Analysis, Data Mining and AI, Data Visualisation, Data and Society, Database Design, Research Methods and Dissertation Preparation, and the Dissertation itself, which is worth 60 credits. These modules equip students with the skills to manage large datasets, implement computational and statistical techniques, design databases, visualise complex information, and critically evaluate the societal implications of data use. Research Methods and Dissertation Preparation provide the tools needed to conduct independent research, while the Dissertation allows students to apply their learning to a substantive, self-directed project. In addition to core modules, students select two optional modules from a choice that includes Information Governance and Ethics, Big Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, and User-Centred Design and Human-Computer Interaction, enabling them to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers as data scientists, analysts, and decision-makers in a range of sectors, equipping them with the technical, analytical, and ethical expertise necessary to leverage data for insight, innovation, and informed decision-making in complex organisational and societal contexts.
