COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering MSc is structured to provide both broad-based knowledge and specialised expertise in structural and civil engineering, with a curriculum that integrates technical training, research skills, and practical applications. Core modules include Research and Professional Skills, the Regenerative Design Project, and Advanced Engineering Research Study, equipping students with the ability to conduct independent research, develop professional competencies, and apply engineering principles to sustainable design projects. In the first semester, students select optional modules aligned with their chosen theme—structural or civil engineering—which often serve as prerequisites for advanced second-semester modules. Semester 1 optional modules include Engineering within Planetary Capacity, Advanced Structural Analysis and Finite Element Methods, Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, Groundwater Engineering, and Climate Resilient Water Infrastructure Design, providing foundational skills in analysis, design, and sustainable infrastructure. In the second semester, optional modules build on this foundation, covering specialised topics such as Geotechnical Infrastructure, Innovations in Construction Materials and Technologies, Design and Management of Sewer Systems, Urban Stormwater Management, Blast and Impact Effects on Structures, Structural Analysis and Design for Fire, and Seismic Resistant Design and Strengthening. Together, the core and optional modules prepare graduates to address complex engineering challenges, manage sustainable infrastructure projects, and pursue careers in civil and structural engineering, consultancy, or research, equipping them with the technical expertise and problem-solving skills necessary for professional success.
