COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cancer Biology and Therapeutics MSc is built around a set of taught modules that provide a comprehensive foundation in cancer research and treatment, each worth 15 credits. Core modules include Cellular and Molecular Basis of Cancer and Precision Medicine, which introduces the underlying mechanisms of cancer development and the application of targeted therapies. Cancer Epidemiology examines patterns, causes, and risk factors associated with cancer, while Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment focuses on current clinical approaches for identifying and managing the disease. Tumour Microenvironment and Cancer Immunology explores the interaction between cancer cells and the immune system, highlighting the role of immunotherapy in modern treatment strategies. Cancer Research Technologies provides hands-on training in contemporary laboratory techniques, experimental design, and data analysis, ensuring students gain practical skills relevant to research and clinical applications. The Critical Literature Review module develops the ability to evaluate and synthesize scientific literature, fostering analytical thinking and scientific communication skills. Collectively, these modules equip students with a strong understanding of both the biological basis of cancer and the latest advances in therapeutics, combining theoretical knowledge with practical research experience. Together with the six-month research project, the program prepares graduates for careers in cancer research, the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare, or further academic study, including PhD research.
