COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Engineering MSc combines a structured set of core and optional modules to provide comprehensive training in the application of engineering principles to medicine and healthcare. Core modules include Anatomy and Physiology for Engineers, Introduction to Medical Device Regulation, Medical Imaging: Principles and Technologies, Applied Modelling Skills and Virtual Reality, and the Biomedical Engineering Project and Dissertation. These modules provide a solid foundation in human biology, medical imaging techniques, regulatory requirements, computational modelling, and research skills, enabling students to develop practical and theoretical expertise relevant to biomedical engineering challenges. In addition, students select 30 credits from a group of optional modules such as Computational Mechanics with Clinical Applications, Women's Health in Biomedical Engineering, Bio-imaging and Bio-spectroscopy, Computational Biomechanics of the Musculoskeletal System, Introduction to Statistics and Critical Appraisal, and Engineering Commercial Success, allowing them to focus on applied clinical and analytical skills. A further 30 credits are chosen from options including Experimental Skills for Tissue Modelling, Biomaterials Science, Tissue Engineering Approaches to Failure in Living Systems, Human Movement Biomechanics, Cardiovascular Biomechanics, Fundamental Biomechanics, and Human Factors and User-Centred Design. Together, the curriculum equips graduates with the technical knowledge, research experience, and interdisciplinary understanding needed for careers in biomedical engineering, medical device development, healthcare innovation, and related research fields.
