COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Astrophysics offers a structured combination of core and optional modules designed to provide a thorough grounding in both theoretical and practical aspects of modern astrophysics. Core modules include Star Formation and Evolution, Galaxy Formation and Evolution, Introduction to Cosmology, Physics Research Skills, and a Research Project, which together ensure students develop a strong understanding of fundamental astrophysical processes while gaining experience in conducting independent research. These modules cover key topics such as the life cycles of stars, the large-scale structure and evolution of galaxies, and the fundamental principles of cosmology, while also emphasizing the development of practical skills in data analysis, modeling, and scientific investigation. In addition to the core curriculum, students select three optional modules totaling 45 credits, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests. Optional modules include The Development of Particle Physics, Dark Matter and the Universe, Advanced Quantum Mechanics, An Introduction to General Relativity, Physics in an Enterprise Culture, Astrobiology, Origin of the Chemical Elements, and Observational Astronomy with a field trip. These options provide opportunities to explore specialized areas ranging from the physics of fundamental particles to the search for life beyond Earth, enabling students to gain both breadth and depth in astrophysical knowledge and research experience.
