COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Mechanical Engineering MSc provides students with a comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles, combining theoretical study with practical application and research experience. Core modules cover essential skills such as Technical Communication for Mechanical Engineers, Experiments and Valid Computer Models, Strategic Engineering Management and Business Practices, and professional development, along with a Masters Research Mini Project and an Individual Research Project that allow students to undertake independent, in-depth investigations. Optional modules offer opportunities for specialisation and personalisation of the degree, with first-semester options including Industrial Applications of Finite Element Analysis, Advanced Engineering Fluid Dynamics, Additive Manufacturing, Mechanics of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, Computational Biomechanics, and Engineering Commercial Success, among others. In the second semester, students may choose from modules such as Design and Manufacture of Composites, Advanced Energy and Power, Cardiovascular Biomechanics, Aviation Safety and Aeroelasticity, Human Factors and User-Centred Design, Sustainable Materials Manufacturing, and the year-long Railway Engineering and Sustainable Transport module. Across all modules, students develop analytical, computational, and experimental skills, applying engineering principles to complex real-world challenges while cultivating problem-solving, project management, and communication abilities. The program equips graduates with the technical knowledge, research experience, and professional competencies necessary to pursue careers in engineering, advanced manufacturing, transport, energy systems, or further academic study, positioning them for leadership and innovation in the field.
