COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Cell and Gene Therapies MSc equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to work in the rapidly evolving fields of gene and cell therapy. Core modules provide a comprehensive understanding of the science, technology, and clinical application of these therapies. Students begin by studying the genetic basis of human inherited diseases and the molecular mechanisms underlying them in the Introduction to Human Inherited Diseases module. Omics Techniques introduces the use of high-throughput technologies to analyse genomes, transcriptomes, and proteomes, providing critical insight into disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets. Principles of Gene and Cell Therapies and Beyond Cell and Gene Therapy cover the scientific foundations, emerging technologies, and translational aspects of developing personalised treatments. Clinical Development in Gene and Cell Therapeutics explores the regulatory, ethical, and practical considerations involved in moving therapies from the laboratory to clinical trials. Students also learn how to design and propose research through the Formulating a Scientific Research Proposal module, culminating in an independent Research Project where they apply laboratory techniques, data analysis, and critical thinking to original investigations. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience, collaborative skills, and a deep understanding of the scientific, clinical, and translational aspects of advanced therapies, preparing them for careers in biotechnology, clinical research, and regenerative medicine.
