COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architecture MArch combines advanced design practice with research, professional skills, and critical understanding to prepare students for high-level careers in architecture and related fields. In the first year, core modules such as Design 1 and Design 2, Live Project 1, Architectural Research Methods, Environment and Technology 1, Management and Practice 1, and Dissertation 1 provide a foundation in creative design, technical skills, and research methodologies. Students develop the ability to conceive and communicate architectural ideas, engage with real-world projects, and explore the social, cultural, and environmental dimensions of design. In the second year, core modules including Design 3 and Design 4, Live Project 2, Design Manifesto, Environment and Technology 2, Management and Practice 2, and Dissertation 2 allow students to advance their design expertise, integrate complex technical and environmental considerations, and produce a substantial independent research or design project. Optional modules offer opportunities for specialisation in areas such as Materials for Low Impact Buildings, Power, Space, Society, Conservation and Regeneration Principles and Approaches, and Histories and Theories of Urban Design, enabling students to tailor their studies to specific interests. Through studio work, live projects, and research, students develop creative, analytical, and professional competencies, preparing them to contribute to architecture, urban planning, heritage, and sustainable design at a high level.
