COURSE CURRICULUM

The Translation and Intercultural Studies MA provides a structured curriculum designed to develop both practical translation skills and critical understanding of intercultural communication. In the first semester, students engage with foundational modules such as Induction and Transition: SLC MA Study Support, which prepares them for postgraduate study, and Translation Technologies, introducing tools and digital resources essential for modern translation practice. Translation Skills and Genres 1 focuses on applying translation techniques across different types of texts, while Research Methods in Modern Languages and Cultures equips students with the methodological skills needed for independent research. Concepts and Approaches in Translation Studies encourages critical engagement with key theories, frameworks, and debates within translation scholarship. In the second semester, students build on their practical and theoretical knowledge through Translation Skills and Genres 2, which advances their proficiency in translating complex texts and refining stylistic and cultural accuracy. The Dissertation serves as a capstone project, allowing students to undertake in-depth research or applied translation work on a topic of professional or academic interest. Overall, the program integrates practical skill development with scholarly analysis, preparing graduates for careers in translation, localisation, media, teaching, research, and communication, while also providing a strong foundation for further academic study in languages and intercultural studies.
