COURSE CURRICULUM

The Philosophy MA at Sheffield is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of philosophical traditions and contemporary research. Through core modules, students explore a variety of philosophical approaches, gaining a comprehensive foundation in the discipline while engaging with new directions in research. The program offers flexibility through optional modules, allowing students to tailor their learning to their specific interests, which may include areas such as the nature of thought, language and the world, ethics and practical philosophy, or political theory. This structure enables learners to explore both theoretical and applied aspects of philosophy, developing the ability to critically analyse complex ideas and construct well-reasoned arguments. A key component of the MA is the dissertation, where students design and conduct an independent research project under the guidance of a dedicated supervisor. This major piece of work allows students to demonstrate their capacity for original thought, rigorous analysis, and advanced research skills.
