COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Librarianship is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of library and information services, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare for professional roles in this evolving field. The program requires 180 credits for completion, including core modules, optional modules, and a dissertation with research preparation. Core modules cover essential areas such as information organisation, the role of libraries in society, information literacy, and the management of public, school, and prison libraries. Students also explore academic and workplace information services, gaining insight into effective knowledge management and organisational practices. The course emphasizes the development of management skills, enabling students to lead library and information services effectively. Research methods and dissertation preparation equip students with the tools to conduct independent research, critically analyse information, and apply evidence-based solutions to practical challenges. In addition to core study, students select an optional module tailored to their career interests, such as information governance and ethics, business intelligence, database design, user-centred design, or archives and records management, allowing for further specialisation. Graduates emerge from the program with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to pursue careers in libraries, archives, information centres, and other professional information environments globally, ready to address contemporary challenges in the field.
