COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Landscape Studies combines rigorous academic research with practical design and management skills to equip students for careers in landscape architecture, planning, and environmental management. Core modules, including Landscape Research as Creative Practice, The Language of Landscape, Advanced Landscape Research and Dissertation Preparation, the Final Landscape Project, Communicating Landscape, and the Landscape Research Dissertation, provide a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied aspects of landscape studies. These modules develop students’ abilities to critically analyse, communicate, and implement landscape concepts while undertaking substantial research projects that integrate theory and practice. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests, offering advanced study in areas such as conceptual and strategic design, global landscape planning, local engagement, management for change, stewardship, and the materiality of landscape. Through a combination of creative practice, research, and professional skills development, students gain expertise in understanding, designing, and managing landscapes in diverse contexts. Fieldwork, studio work, and collaborative projects enhance practical problem-solving skills, while research components cultivate analytical and critical thinking abilities. Graduates of the program are well-prepared for careers in landscape architecture, environmental consultancy, urban and regional planning, heritage management, and related disciplines, with the skills to respond innovatively to complex environmental and social challenges.
