COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Journalism MA provides students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to understand and contribute to contemporary journalism on a global scale. Core modules such as Digital Journalism, Writing for the Media, Journalism in Britain, Global Journalism, Media and Communication Ethics, and Understanding Global News equip students with essential skills in news reporting, content creation, ethical decision-making, and the critical analysis of media practices. These modules emphasize the ability to research, write, and communicate effectively across multiple platforms while considering the broader social, political, and cultural contexts of journalism. Students also select three optional modules, allowing for tailored specialisation in areas such as Journalism and Society, the Weaponisation of the Media, Media Freedom across European, UK, and US perspectives, the Use and Abuse of Radio and Digital Technologies in Conflict-Affected Areas, and Critical Incidents in International Journalism. These options enable students to explore global media issues in depth and develop an understanding of complex challenges faced by journalists worldwide. The Dissertation module provides an opportunity for independent research, allowing students to investigate a topic of interest, integrate practical and analytical skills, and produce a substantial piece of original work. Together, the modules prepare graduates for careers in international journalism, digital media, communications, and media analysis, equipping them with professional, analytical, and ethical expertise essential for success in a rapidly evolving media environment.
