COURSE CURRICULUM

The Archaeology and Heritage MA equips students with advanced knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience needed for careers in archaeology, heritage management, and related fields. Core modules focus on developing expertise in professional practice and research methods, including Landscapes in Archaeology: Methods and Perspectives, Digital Mapping for the Humanities, GIS for Archaeologists, and the Landscape Survey Project. These modules teach students how to investigate, record, and analyse historic landscapes using both traditional and digital techniques, while assessments are designed to mirror real-world heritage practice. A key feature of the program is the Work Placement, Dissertation, or Project module, which provides hands-on experience in the heritage sector, allowing students to apply their skills in professional contexts and gain insight into diverse career pathways. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies to specific interests, with examples including Heritage, History and Identity, Digital Cultural Heritage: Theory and Practice, and, subject to confirmation, modules on museum history and practice, built heritage, cultural heritage today, Egypt in the Age of the Empire, and the Archaeology of Death and Burial. Students also have the opportunity to enhance their skills through Languages for All. Through a combination of practical projects, fieldwork, and critical study, graduates develop research, analytical, and professional competencies, preparing them for impactful careers in archaeology, heritage, museums, and cultural consultancy.
