COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied Linguistics MA provides students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the study and application of language, combining theoretical insight with research expertise. Core modules, including Research Methods, Current Issues in Applied Linguistics, Research Dissertation Practice, and the Dissertation in Language and Linguistics, equip students with the tools to design, conduct, and analyse independent research projects. These modules develop critical thinking, analytical, and academic writing skills while fostering an in-depth understanding of contemporary debates and methodologies in applied linguistics. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests, with options such as Teaching Listening and Speaking, Teaching Reading and Writing, Teaching Vocabulary, Grammar and Discourse, Materials and Course Design, Language and Public Life, Introduction to Linguistic Theory, Practitioner Research and Development, Advances in TESOL, and Language and Interaction. These modules enable students to explore topics related to language acquisition, teaching, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and language policy, providing practical and professional insights alongside academic study.
