COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology BSc provides a comprehensive study of human thought, behaviour, and emotion, combining theoretical knowledge with practical research skills. In the first year, students explore fundamental topics such as social, cognitive, developmental, and clinical psychology, alongside neuroscience, gaining an understanding of how memory, learning, and behaviour are influenced by both biological and environmental factors. Core modules also introduce psychological research methodology, teaching students how to design experiments, collect and analyse data, and communicate findings effectively, while developing essential academic and professional skills. In the second year, students build on this foundation, examining human behaviour in greater depth and across multiple fields, including psychological disorders, child development, and social interactions. Research training advances with professional statistical software and ethical research design, and students can select optional modules to explore specialised interests. In the third year, students undertake an independent research project under expert supervision, conducting original empirical research or computer modelling, while applying advanced skills in analysis, ethics, and project management. Optional modules in areas such as psychology of crime, neurodiversity, cognitive neuroscience, and psychology of sexual orientation and gender identity allow further specialisation. Throughout the degree, students develop critical thinking, analytical abilities, and practical research experience, preparing them for careers in psychology, healthcare, education, research, and related fields.
