COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics and Statistics BSc is a three-year program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both mathematical theory and statistical methods, preparing them for careers in data analysis, research, finance, and technology. In the first year, students study core modules such as Introduction to University Mathematics, Geometry, Matrices and Multivariate Calculus, Foundations of Pure Mathematics, Probability and Data Science, Mathematical Investigation Skills, and Mathematical Modelling, building essential analytical and problem-solving skills. The second year advances this knowledge with core modules including Linear Algebra and Advanced Calculus, Analysis, Statistical Inference and Modelling, and Stochastic Modelling, while optional modules allow students to explore areas such as algebraic structures, differential equations, and special relativity. In the third year, students deepen their expertise through advanced modules like Bayesian Statistics, Generalised Linear Models, Medical Statistics, and Sampling Theory, alongside a substantial Mathematics and Statistics Project that develops research, analytical, and project management skills. Optional modules in the final year enable further specialization in areas such as financial mathematics and time series, machine learning, and operations research and game theory. Throughout the program, students gain both theoretical understanding and practical experience, developing quantitative, computational, and problem-solving skills that are highly valued across academic and professional fields.
