COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography BSc degree provides a comprehensive understanding of physical geography, focusing on the processes that shape the natural environment and the skills needed to address global challenges such as climate change, natural hazards, and environmental sustainability. In the first year, students gain a foundation in the subject through core modules including Earth systems, critical inquiry, global challenges, fieldwork in physical geography, and mapping and statistical analysis, with an option to explore human geography or environmental action. In the second year, the course builds on this knowledge with core modules in GIS, earth observation, dynamic landscapes, glacial processes, and research design, while optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as climate systems, sustainable development, social justice, urban culture, territorial politics, and environmental history. The third year focuses on independent research through a dissertation in geography and environmental science, complemented by optional modules that cover topics such as coastal change, environmental justice, applied volcanology, advanced geospatial analysis, planetary processes, climate systems, and sustainability. Throughout the degree, students develop strong analytical, research, and fieldwork skills, enabling them to interpret complex environmental data, understand human-environment interactions, and prepare for careers in environmental consultancy, hazard management, climate science, sustainability, and conservation.
