COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Mathematics BSc provides a rigorous and integrated approach to understanding both quantitative methods and economic theory, preparing students to tackle complex real-world problems. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in economics and mathematics, covering core modules such as microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis alongside mathematical skills in calculus, modelling, probability, data science, and computing. This combination equips students with analytical and problem-solving abilities essential for economic applications. In the second year, the course advances to intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, econometrics, linear algebra, advanced calculus, and analysis, providing tools to approach more complex economic and mathematical challenges. Students can also deepen their understanding through optional modules in applied mathematics and statistics, including stochastic modelling and statistical inference. In the final year, students further develop expertise in mathematical methods and econometrics, undertaking core modules such as further econometrics and advanced mathematical methods for economics. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies according to interests, with economics options including game theory, modern finance, environmental economics, and political economy, while mathematics options include financial mathematics, machine learning, sampling theory, and Bayesian statistics. The degree emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, preparing graduates for careers in economics, finance, data science, analytics, and policy, as well as further study in mathematics or economics.
