COURSE CURRICULUM

The Data Science BSc provides a comprehensive grounding in technical, analytical, and ethical aspects of data science. In the first year, students develop fundamental skills in programming, computational thinking, statistics, and data visualisation, while exploring sociological theory and the ethical application of data-driven approaches. Core modules such as Practical Programming for Data Science, Data Science Foundations, Statistics for Insight, and Data-Driven Organisations equip students with the knowledge to understand and manipulate data responsibly. In the second year, students build on this foundation by developing advanced technical skills and applying them to the full data lifecycle through team-based projects. Core modules including Data Ethics and Leadership, Databases and Beyond, and AI and Machine Learning for Advanced Analytics deepen understanding of ethical decision-making, complex data structures, and AI techniques, preparing students to solve real-world problems. In the final year, students have the opportunity to specialise and prepare for professional careers through independent study, portfolio development, and a substantial individual project supervised by faculty. Modules such as Building AI Applications, Becoming a Data Translator, and Data Science and AI in Practice focus on applying advanced AI and data science techniques in practical and innovative ways. Graduates gain the technical expertise, ethical insight, and practical experience needed for careers in data science, analytics, and AI-driven industries.
