COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry with Biological and Medicinal Chemistry BSc provides a comprehensive foundation in chemistry while focusing on applications in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. In the first year, students build essential knowledge in core chemistry principles, covering topics from fundamental chemical reactions to the role of chemistry in biological systems and sustainability, alongside developing key laboratory and analytical skills. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, exploring reaction mechanisms, coordination complexes, and molecular properties, while beginning to study biological and medicinal chemistry, including the structure and function of nucleic acids and the role of noncovalent interactions. Laboratory work and analytical techniques such as spectroscopy and chromatography are central to this stage, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical contexts. The third year emphasizes advanced chemical concepts and independent research, with projects that integrate chemistry with biological systems. Students investigate organic reaction mechanisms, organometallic compounds, and surface chemistry, as well as synthetic approaches for studying biological molecules. Optional and core modules allow further specialization in chemical biology, drug design, and medicinal chemistry. Throughout the course, students gain theoretical knowledge, practical laboratory experience, and research skills, preparing them for careers in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, chemical industries, or further postgraduate study.
