COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering BEng is structured over three years to provide a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles while developing practical and professional skills. In the first year, students focus on foundational knowledge through core modules such as the Autumn and Spring Integrative Projects, Fundamental Engineering Science parts one and two, and Essential Mathematical Skills and Techniques. These modules introduce students to the core concepts of mechanics, materials, and mathematical methods required for engineering problem-solving. The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced modules in Dynamics and Solids, Thermofluids, Manufacturing, Maths for Mechanical Engineering, and a Design Project, enabling students to apply their knowledge to increasingly complex engineering challenges and develop technical, analytical, and teamwork skills. In the third year, students undertake an individual research project, working under expert supervision to explore a specialized area of mechanical engineering, while also participating in a group design project that involves tackling real-world problems proposed by industrial partners. Optional modules allow further specialization in areas such as Solids and Finite Element Analysis, Dynamics, Fluids and Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Thermodynamics. The program emphasizes independent learning, communication, and organizational abilities, equipping graduates with the theoretical knowledge, practical expertise, and professional competencies necessary for successful careers in engineering, research, and related fields.
