COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Systems Engineering BEng program is designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in hardware and software development. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules covering group projects, engineering skills, system modelling, analysis tools for mechatronics and computer engineering, electric and magnetic circuits, and analogue and digital electronics. This early stage emphasizes understanding fundamental principles while developing teamwork and practical problem-solving abilities. In the second year, students expand their expertise with modules such as design projects, control, communications and mathematics, embedded system engineering, analogue devices and circuits, and software and hardware design. These modules deepen technical knowledge while providing the practical skills needed for a career in engineering and laying the groundwork for Chartered Engineer status. The third year focuses on specialization and applied projects, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests and career ambitions. Specialization options include microelectronics, covering semiconductor electronics, digital signal processing, and integrated electronic systems, or software and AI, which includes robot motion planning, sensor fusion, and machine learning and optimisation. Throughout the course, students also have the opportunity to select optional modules, ensuring a degree that combines strong technical foundations, hands-on experience, and career-focused expertise in computer systems engineering.
