COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and Modern Languages & Cultures BA offers a dynamic combination of political study and language learning, providing students with a broad understanding of international affairs and cultural diversity. In the first year, students take core politics modules such as Political Analysis 1 and Thinking Politically, alongside language study in French, German, Dutch, Russian, Czech, Spanish, Catalan, or Portuguese at either beginner or advanced level. Language learning is complemented by cultural modules such as Understanding Modern France and Francophone Cultures or Understanding Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese Histories and Cultures. Students also choose from politics options like World Politics, Global Political Economy, or Gender Politics. In the second year, students advance their language proficiency and deepen their political understanding through modules such as Political Analysis 2 and Political Theory in Practice, while selecting additional topics that reflect their interests. The third year is spent abroad, allowing full cultural and linguistic immersion through study or work placements. In the final year, students return to complete an independent research project in politics and choose from a variety of advanced modules covering themes like leadership ethics, migration, political psychology, and global culture wars. The degree develops analytical, linguistic, and intercultural skills essential for global careers.
