COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and Sociology BA offers a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between political systems and social structures, combining theoretical insight with empirical analysis. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through core modules such as Political Analysis 1, Introduction to Social Theory, Thinking Politically, Theories of Society, and Understanding and Challenging Inequality. Optional modules such as Gender Politics, World Politics, or Global Political Economy allow students to explore specific political themes. The second year builds on these foundations, focusing on advanced theory and research through modules like Sociological Theory and Analysis, Political Analysis 2, Solidarity: Politics, Law and Society across the Globe, and Oppression and Resistance. Students can also choose from optional topics such as migration, Chinese politics, digital media, crime, and feminism, encouraging interdisciplinary exploration of global and social issues. In the final year, students complete an independent research project and can specialise further through modules on inequality, intimacy, global data industries, welfare states, artificial intelligence, and privilege. Throughout the course, students develop key skills in research, critical thinking, and social analysis, gaining the ability to connect personal and societal experiences with political processes. Graduates are well-prepared for roles in policy, government, media, research, and community development.
