COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and International Relations BA offers a comprehensive understanding of political systems, global governance, and international affairs through a structured three-year program. In the first year, students build a foundation in political theory, research, and global dynamics through core modules such as Political Analysis 1, Thinking Politically, World Politics, and Global Political Economy. They can also choose optional modules like Comparative Politics, Race and Racism in World Politics, and Gender Politics to explore specific political themes and ideologies. The second year deepens analytical and research skills with modules such as Political Analysis 2, Political Theory in Practice, Approaches to World Politics, and Autocracies and Democracies, while optional topics such as security, global capitalism, Chinese politics, and migration allow for specialisation in areas of interest. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation project, applying their critical and research skills to an area of their choice. They also choose from a range of advanced modules on topics such as political psychology, leadership ethics, global culture wars, and armed conflict. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on critical thinking, evidence-based analysis, and global awareness, preparing students for careers in government, policy, media, international organisations, or further academic study.
