COURSE CURRICULUM

The Philosophy, Religion and Ethics BA offers a comprehensive three-year journey through key ideas, debates, and practices that shape human understanding of morality, faith, and existence. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through core modules such as Writing Philosophy and Religion, Reason and Reality, alongside topics like Religion in Britain and Ethics and Society. They can explore optional areas including Mind and World, Death and Killing, and Science, Medicine and Society. The second year deepens engagement with philosophical and ethical inquiry through core modules such as Religion and the Good Life and additional studies like Life Worth Living, Ethics: from Theory to Practice, and Ethnography and Lived Religion. Optional modules cover diverse themes from Feminism and the Philosophy of AI and Robotics to Global History of Philosophy and Political Philosophy, allowing students to shape their academic focus. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation project and the module Communicating Philosophy, while optional modules offer the chance to explore advanced topics such as Global Justice, Phenomenology, Ancient Chinese Philosophy, Philosophy of Law, and Feminist and Queer Studies in Religion. Across all years, the degree nurtures critical reasoning, ethical reflection, and intellectual curiosity within global and contemporary contexts.
