COURSE CURRICULUM

The Landscape Architecture BA at Sheffield provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the planning, design, and management of spaces that balance human needs with environmental sustainability. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through core modules that introduce contemporary landscape concepts, the history of landscape architecture, and essential skills in presentation, communication, research, and spatial understanding. They also explore how landscapes are dynamic and continuously shaped by natural and human factors. In the second year, students build on this foundation with modules focusing on ecological processes, design and management, and practical approaches to landscape exploration and intervention. They gain expertise in landscape planning for a changing world and learn the technical skills required for construction and planting design. The third year emphasizes integration and application of knowledge through advanced modules, including urban design projects, urban regeneration planning, and toolkits for effective landscape planning. Students also develop detailed design skills, site planning for sustainable housing, and strategies for creating sustainable communities. Throughout the course, there is a strong focus on linking theory with practice, encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and professional skill development.
