COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Sustainable Development BA provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to understanding the challenges and opportunities of international development, with a focus on social justice and sustainability. In the first year, students explore the history and key debates of global development, examining how environmental, social, and economic challenges are addressed through policy at local and global levels. Core modules cover global development frameworks, power and knowledge, global challenges, and practical skills, while optional modules allow students to explore areas such as human geography, political economy, and environmental change. In the second year, the focus shifts to research skills and critical perspectives, helping students understand the complexities of sustainable development in practice. Core modules include research ethics, development interventions, social justice, and applied sustainable development, alongside optional modules in areas such as climate change, social change, urban theory, and migration, enabling students to tailor their studies to their interests. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge through a dissertation and professional practice module, developing expertise in a chosen area of sustainable development. Optional modules cover topics such as environmental justice, inequality, urban infrastructures, and social movements. The program equips graduates with analytical, research, and practical skills for careers in development, policy, consultancy, and non-governmental organisations.
