COURSE CURRICULUM

The English and Music BA offers students the opportunity to combine their passion for language, literature, and music through an interdisciplinary curriculum. In the first year, students choose between two English pathways—Literature or Linguistics—while also studying key areas of music. Core modules in English include Renaissance to Revolution and Writing Revolutions for Literature students, or Sounds and Structures of English and Linguistic Theory for those focusing on Linguistics. In Music, students study Digital Skills for Music and the History of Western Music, alongside options in composition, performance, analysis, and global music. The degree’s flexible structure also allows students to explore additional subjects from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge through modules such as Musicology, Work in Music, Romanticism to Modernism, Phonetics, and Language Acquisition, with further optional studies in areas like performance, Shakespeare, and sociolinguistics. In the final year, students undertake a research project and a creative minor project in composition or performance. Optional modules such as Sound and Moving Image, Renaissance Literature, Orchestration, and Psychology for Musicians allow for specialization. The degree equips students with analytical, creative, and research skills, preparing them for diverse careers in the arts, communication, and education.
