COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics BA degree offers a thorough understanding of how economic principles apply to real-world issues through theoretical, quantitative, and analytical study. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and statistical analysis while developing data-handling skills through modules such as Statistical Methods for Economics and Applied Data Analysis. They also strengthen their mathematical understanding with modules suited to their prior experience and can explore areas like finance, economic history, or classical economic thought. In the second year, students advance to intermediate studies in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, applying quantitative techniques to analyse economic trends and policies. They also explore applied fields such as industrial organisation, international trade, and economic policy through optional modules. The third year focuses on applying advanced economic theory to practical problems, with students completing a major research project and studying modules like Economic Policy and Practice. A wide range of optional modules allows specialisation in topics such as behavioural economics, environmental policy, inequality, and global development. Throughout the course, students develop strong analytical, statistical, and research skills that prepare them for careers in economics, finance, government, or policy-making, or for further postgraduate study in related fields.
