The Accounting and Financial Management BA at Sussex provides a comprehensive education in accounting, finance, and business, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for professional careers. In the first year, students gain a broad understanding of financial markets and the core principles of accounting and financial management through modules such as Introduction to Financial Accounting, Introduction to Management Accounting, Foundations in Financial Management, and Business Economics in a Contemporary Society. Analytical and decision-making skills are developed through tailored modules, while career development planning helps students prepare for the professional environment. In the second and third years, students have greater flexibility to specialise and deepen their expertise. Core modules cover intermediate and advanced accounting, management accounting, corporate finance, asset pricing, and financial management. Optional modules allow students to explore areas such as corporate governance, auditing, company analysis, emerging markets finance, financial derivatives, business strategy, and law for management. Practical skills are enhanced through the Trading Room, which simulates real financial markets using Bloomberg software, as well as workshops on data analysis and information sources. Some modules align with professional accounting examinations, offering exemptions with bodies including ACCA, ICAEW, CPA Australia, and CIMA. Graduates leave with strong technical knowledge, analytical skills, and practical experience, fully prepared for careers in accounting, finance, business, or further study.
