COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc (Clin) Periodontology is a three-year specialist program designed to develop advanced clinical, research, and analytical skills in the field of periodontology and implant dentistry. The course is structured around four key components: Research Methods, Biostatistics, a Specialist Clinical Component, and the MSc Dissertation, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical expertise. In the first year, students focus on foundational subjects such as the basic science of applied periodontology, diagnosis and treatment planning, non-surgical management, adjunctive treatments and antimicrobials, and evidence-based practice. This year also includes research methods, biostatistics, and clinical case reflection and presentation, establishing the academic and practical skills necessary for specialist practice. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced topics including the management of complicating factors, periodontal surgery, advanced diagnosis and treatment planning, and continued clinical case reflection. The third year emphasizes implant dentistry, covering implant basic science, treatment planning, surgical and restorative techniques, peri-implant lesions, advanced regenerative techniques, and mucogingival surgery, alongside clinical reflection and presentations. The program culminates in a 60-credit dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research that contributes to the field. By integrating rigorous clinical training, scientific knowledge, and research expertise, the MSc prepares graduates for specialist-level careers in periodontology, implant dentistry, and academic or research roles.
