COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc (Clin) Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a three-year program that combines extensive clinical experience with advanced academic study to prepare dentists for specialist practice. In the first year, students participate in three or more clinical sessions per week, focusing on head and neck anatomy and foundational surgical principles guided by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The second year continues with regular clinical sessions and introduces advanced skills such as clinical photography and implantology, alongside participation in professional events including the British Association of Oral Surgeons Conference, the Annual UK Scientific Conference, the Association of Dental Implantology, and the ABAOMS UK Annual Meeting. The third year maintains the clinical training while reinforcing professional engagement through repeated attendance at key national conferences. The academic curriculum spans core modules covering Surgical Basic Sciences and Patient Care, Dental Tissues, Bone: Disease and Injury, Soft Tissue, Salivary Tissue, Pain and Temporomandibular Joint Disorders, Research Methods, Biostatistics, and Reflective Oral Surgery Practice. A significant component of the program is the MSc Dissertation, allowing students to conduct in-depth research and contribute to the field. Overall, the course integrates rigorous clinical training, scientific knowledge, and research skills, equipping graduates to become competent oral and maxillofacial surgeons capable of delivering high-quality patient care and advancing the profession.
