COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Structural Engineering program offers a comprehensive curriculum combining theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and advanced research techniques essential for modern structural engineering practice. Core modules such as Principles of Structural Engineering Design, Advanced Structural Analysis, and Practice of Structural Engineering Design provide students with a solid foundation in structural theory, design principles, and application to real-world engineering projects. Specialist modules, including Earthquake Engineering and Fire Engineering, equip students with the expertise to design resilient structures capable of withstanding natural hazards and extreme conditions. Experimental Methods and Finite Elements focus on practical and computational techniques, enhancing students’ ability to analyse complex structural behaviour and implement innovative solutions. Research Methods supports the development of independent investigative skills, preparing students for rigorous analysis and applied research. The Dissertation module enables students to conduct an in-depth, original research project, integrating theoretical knowledge and practical skills to address contemporary challenges in structural engineering. Accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators, the program also fulfills the educational requirements for Chartered Engineer status.
