COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sociological Research program provides comprehensive training in contemporary sociology, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to pursue careers in research, policy, and industry. Core modules such as Social Theory: Structure, Relations and Interaction, Philosophical and Methodological Foundations of Social Research, and Research Design introduce students to the theoretical and conceptual frameworks that underpin sociological inquiry, while Research Strategy and Project Management prepares them to plan and execute complex research projects effectively. The program emphasizes both qualitative and quantitative methods, with modules including Qualitative Research Methods and Introduction to Quantitative Methods providing the analytical and technical skills needed to collect, interpret, and present data. The Dissertation module allows students to apply these skills through an independent research project, developing expertise in a chosen area of sociological study. Optional modules, such as Data Analysis with R & RStudio, Protest and Progress: Understanding Movements for Social and Political Change, and Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods, enable students to specialise and deepen their knowledge in areas of interest, from computational analysis to social activism. Overall, the program fosters critical thinking, methodological rigor, and practical research skills, preparing graduates to contribute to evidence-based decision-making, policy development, and academic or applied sociological research.
