COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Logic provides an advanced curriculum that combines core research training with in-depth study of abstract mathematics and logic. Central to the program are the Dissertation and the Research and Project Skills module, which together develop essential skills in independent research, mathematical writing, critical thinking, and project management. The Dissertation, valued at 60 credits, allows students to explore an advanced topic in pure mathematics or mathematical logic under the guidance of a supervisor, often aligned with current research interests. The Research and Project Skills module equips students with the ability to plan, execute, and present research projects, preparing them for both academic and professional challenges. Students can select from a variety of optional modules to tailor their studies to specific interests, including Computation and Complexity, Category Theory, Model Theory, Measure Theory and Ergodic Theory, Differentiable Manifolds, Algebraic Topology, Riemann Surfaces, and Lie Algebras. This combination of core and optional modules allows students to gain expertise in both foundational and specialized areas, bridging pure mathematics and mathematical logic. The program emphasizes a balance between theoretical understanding and practical application through lectures, examples classes, project work, and independent study. Graduates acquire advanced analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, preparing them for doctoral study, academic careers, or highly quantitative roles in industry and research institutions.
