COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Precision Medicine provides a rigorous curriculum that combines core theoretical knowledge with extensive practical research experience to prepare students for careers in clinical and translational medicine. Core modules such as Laboratory Skills and Research Methods equip students with essential technical and analytical capabilities required to undertake high-quality experimental work. Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology, Transcriptomics and Functional Genomics introduces students to the study of molecular variation and its role in health and disease, while Proteomics and Metabolomics provides hands-on experience in advanced omics technologies used to characterise proteins and metabolites in biological systems. A central feature of the program is the extended Research Project, completed in two parts, which spans a total of 35 weeks and allows students to work within world-leading research groups across the University, the Manchester Cancer Research Centre, and Greater Manchester teaching hospitals. Through this project, students apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world problems, gaining expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation. By integrating molecular, clinical, and lifestyle information, the program prepares graduates to contribute to precision and stratified medicine initiatives. The combination of research-led teaching, advanced laboratory training, and in-depth exposure to cutting-edge omics technologies ensures that graduates are well-equipped for careers in biomedical research, clinical practice, or further doctoral study in precision medicine.
