COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Materials Engineering for Sustainability in Demanding Environments combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to equip students for careers in materials science and engineering. The program includes a dissertation worth 90 credits, providing an opportunity to undertake an in-depth research project that applies learned concepts to real-world challenges. Core modules cover essential topics such as Introduction to Materials Science, Research Methods, Corrosion Management for Sustainability, Corrosion Control for Industrial Practice, and Materials Degradation, ensuring students develop a strong foundation in understanding material behaviour, degradation processes, and sustainable engineering strategies. The program also incorporates professional development through the Respect and Dignity at Manchester module, supporting students’ ethical awareness and workplace readiness. Optional modules such as Superalloys and High Performance Materials and Corrosion Control for Oilfield and Renewable Energy allow students to tailor their learning to specialised areas, gaining expertise in high-performance materials and industry-specific corrosion control.
